Admission Eligibility Requirements

Applicants to the Master of Accounting program must meet the following requirements:

  • 4-year Bachelor's Degree
  • 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale)
  • GMAT

International Applicants to the Master of Accounting program must also meet the following requirements:

  • A strict minimum TOEFL score of 85 for consideration, or a minimum IELTS score of 7 (with no lower than a 6.5 in any section)

Prerequisite Courses

Prerequisites may be satisfied by taking comparable courses at an acceptable accredited institution. All prerequisites must be taken at an institution that teaches United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 

The following courses should be completed prior to starting your MAcc Program:

Introduction to Financial Accounting (ACCT 200)
Introduction to Managerial Accounting (ACCT 210)
Cost Accounting (ACCT 310)
Intermediate Financial Accounting I (ACCT 400A)
Intermediate Financial Accounting II (ACCT 400B)
Principles of Federal Taxation (ACCT 420)


Applications and Supporting Materials

Applicants are reviewed by the school based upon their whole application. After a review of an applicant's profile a recommendation decision is submitted to the Graduate College. The Graduate College then reviews applications and submits a final admission decision to the applicant. Please note your admission is not official until you receive notification from the Graduate College.

A completed MAcc Application includes :

  • Graduate College Application
  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions. If you attended the University of Arizona, you do not need to send your UofA official transcripts.
  • Official GMAT scores (Institution Code 4832) 
    The GMAT is required for all who do not meet the waiver discussed below. You may not substitute a GRE or LSAT score. You also may not substitute work experience, credentials (CPA, etc) or any other consideration in lieu of the GMAT. 

    Note: there is no minimum score requirement for the GMAT, however, on average, applicants accepted into the program score between a 500 and 700. 

  • Official TOEFL scores (international applicants only)
    85 iBT (563 Paper-Based) or IELTS composite score of no lower than 7 with each subject no lower than 6.
    This applies to international students whose native language is not English. Please see English Proficiency Requirements for information about TOEFL, IELTS, and conditional acceptance options. Please note that the MAcc program has a higher minimum TOEFL score than the Graduate College. 
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (these can either be submitted online through the Online Application, or mailed to the school).

Qualifying applicants must also submit the following materials to the Graduate College:

  • Graduate College fee (This is required to submit your application)
  • Financial Guarantee (international applicants only)

GMAT Waiver Qualifications

If you are a student majoring in accounting at an the University of Arizona (UofA), Arizona State University (ASU), or Northern Arizona University (NAU), or if you have conferred you degree in accounting at UofA, ASU, or NAU within the last four years you may qualify for a GMAT Waiver. 

Criteria for Requirements Waiver: 

1. The student is no more than one semester away from earning their undergraduate degree in Accounting from the UofA, ASU, or NAU or has earned their accounting degree from UofA, ASU, or NAU within the last four years AND 

2. The student achieved an overall GPA of 3.2 (or higher), including courses taken at all institutions attended and an upper division accounting GPA of 3.0 (or higher) at the time the application is reviewed by the Admissions Committee.

If you meet the following criteria above, you will not need to submit the following materials:

  • GMAT Score
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Essays
